Gibraltar
Gibraltar has highs of 20 degrees throughout April, and with just a three-hour flight time, it is a great option for a family holiday. If you didn’t already know, Gibraltar is a British Territory on Spain’s south coast, and as the ocean surrounds it to the east, south, and west, there are some great beaches for you to explore, as well as incredible landmarks like the Rock of Gibraltar.
Best Areas to Stay In Gibraltar
Gibraltar is an extremely small territory, meaning you can drive from the airport at the very north to its Gibraltar’s very southern point in just 20 minutes. Due to its tiny size, no matter where you stay, you can easily access everything Gibraltar has to offer, but if you want to be in walking distance to the hustle and bustle, then Gibraltar’s west side is your best bet.
Best Beaches In Gibraltar For Families
There are some seriously great beaches in Gibraltar, from the characteristic beach of Catalan Bay and the longest beach in Gibraltar, Playa de Levante, to Playa de Santa Bárbara, which has impeccable views of the Rock of Gibraltar, and the connecting beaches of Little Bay Beach and Camp Bay.
No matter which beach you visit, you’re guaranteed to have an enjoyable day out on the sand.
Best Hotels In Gibraltar
Although Gibraltar is small, there are a few great family-friendly hotels, many of which have pools for the little ones to enjoy.
Best Things To Do In Gibraltar
You may want to spend most of your time relaxing on the beach, but if you are in need of other activities, then Gibraltar doesn’t disappoint.
While visiting the territory, you can head down to Gibraltar’s most southerly point to see the 19th–century Trinity Lighthouse, you can make your way to Upper Rock Nature Reserve to see Gibraltars Barbary macaques, or you could ride the Gibraltar Cable Car to see the area from a different perspective.
Alternatively, if your family is particularly active, you can hike up the Rock of Gibraltar, or you could take the little one’s dolphin watching or to see St. Michael’s Cave.

France
I love France for short-haul getaways as the flight is only 2 hours making it perfect for young children or for those who have never been on a plane before. And what’s even better is if flying with kids scares you, you can always get the Eurostar into northern France.
Paris and areas in northern France can see highs of 17 degrees in the latter week of April, and although that isn’t particularly warmer than the UK, it is nice to explore somewhere different if you are not restricted to Easter holiday school timings.
For more guaranteed sunshine and warmth, head to the south of France for those Easter school holidays. The warmest regions of France in April tend to be Provence, Dordogne, Carcassonne and the French Riviera.
Best Areas to Stay In France
There are several areas I would recommend in France with kids, the first being the iconic capital city, Paris, camping in Berny Riviere at a place like La Croix du Vieux Pont which is also close to Disneyland Paris. However, the weather can be very changeable in north France, so southern France is your best bet for some heat.
Nice, in the south of France may only have of 15 degrees in early April but as the month progresses, temperatures do begin to go up.
Best Beaches In France
Paris is a landlocked city, so you won’t be hitting any beaches there, but in Nice, you really will be spoilt for choice. Opera Beach, Ruhl Beach, and Villefranche–sur–Mer are some of the best in the area, but you may need to take a few layers in April, just in case.

Best Hotels In Paris
I’ve already put together a few different articles of the best hotels in Paris with kids in tow, so be sure to check them out. The first is Perfect Paris Hotels for Families, and if your little ones are obsessed with swimming, then you’ll enjoy these Family Paris Hotels with Indoor Pools.
Best Things To Do In Paris
When visiting Paris, your schedule is likely to be jam-packed with all the incredible things that there are to do. Of course, you have Disneyland, which is an absolute must in my opinion, but you also have the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, the Notre Dame, and so many other historical sites that you can’t miss off of your list.
