Warmest places in the USA in October

Sharing is caring!

No matter what month comes around, there is always somewhere that is warm, and if you’re looking for the warmest places in the USA in October, then you’ll be happy to know that there are some fantastic state options for families, all with beautiful balmy weather and plenty of things to see and do for all ages.

Warmest places in the USA in October

I recently wrote a post about the Warmest Places in the USA in February, and the areas I covered in that post are all warm throughout October as well, so you have even more options to choose from! If you’re thinking about heading to Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, or Texas, you’ll definitely want to check it out.

My family loves the United States, and whether it’s been on your bucket list for a while or if you’ve travelled there before, you won’t be disappointed vacationing/holidaying throughout October, so keep on reading.

Warmest places in the USA in October: Alabama

“Sweet home Alabama, where the skies are so blue” ring any bells? Well, the song doesn’t lie, because Alabama has beautiful blue skies, incredible sunsets and sunrises, and average temperatures of 21 degrees in the month of October.

What’s great about Alabama is that the state has literally everything you could ask for, from white sand beaches and mountain trails to waterfalls and eight national parks. It even has various science centres, a rocket centre, and interesting museums!

Best Beaches in Alabama

If your family is anything like mine, then you’ll love relaxing on the beach, taking in the fresh air, and enjoying a dip in the water. Alabama has some fantastic beaches down south, including The Gulf Shores Main Public Beach with vast stretches of white sand, Orange Beach with plenty of recreational activities, and lastly, the Gulf State Park, which offers a beach, a swimming pool, and even fishing opportunities.

Best Hotels In Alabama

The great thing about America is you can typically find condos, apartments, or entire homes for the same price, if not cheaper, than most hotels. I personally love staying in apartments/homes with my family as they give you so much more space as well as a kitchen area so you can whip up breakfast or lunch before heading out but having a clean hotel room to come back too is equally appealing!

Some great family property options in southern Alabama include:

Best Things To Do in Alabama

There are so many great outdoor activities in Alabama, making it the perfect place for adventurous families who want to explore the US in all its natural beauty. Firstly, one of the best places I recommend in Alabama is Dauphin Island which is just off the coast of the city of Mobile in southern Alabama.

Noccalula Falls Park, Cheaha State Park, Little River Canyon National Preserve, and Lake Guntersville are the top choices for hiking trails and breathtaking scenery in Alabama, and what’s more is as you’ll be visiting in the autumnal months, the leaves on the trees will be striking colours of red, orange, and yellow.

And finally, to entertain the kids, you’ll want to head to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, the Anniston Museum of Natural History in Anniston, the Alamaba Safari Park in Hope Hull, and the Exploreum Science Center in Mobile, where the little ones can learn all about space, animals, and natural history.

Warmest places in the USA in October: Florida

Florida with Kids

Florida is very well known as being the sunshine state, and in the second month of the year, temperatures reach up to 23 degrees making it one of the warmest places in the USA in February. As February is technically out of peak season, prices for attractions and crowd levels will be the best you’re ever going to get, so it really is a great time to visit Florida, especially with little ones in tow.

Orlando

Orlando is by far the most popular destination in Florida, mainly because of the Walt Disney World Parks, Universal Studios, and the various other attractions that draw millions of people into the state each year. If you’ve never been to Orlando, then it’s one of the best holiday destinations with little ones, and I’ve been taking my kids for years, with no signs of that coming to a halt any time soon.

Best Family Hotels In Orlando

Unless you’re hiring a car (which I recommend doing!), then you’ll want to stay in a hotel close to the hustle and bustle to cut down on taxi costs. Here are some fantastic options which are close to the parks and other Orlando attractions:

A round up of the best hotels in Orlando for families if you are in a hurry!

Best Things To Do In Orlando

Of course, it goes without saying that one of the best things to do in Orlando is to visit the Walt Disney World Parks. Walt Disney World is one of my favourite places on Earth, and I just couldn’t visit Orlando without heading into at least one park.

For families with slightly older kids who have done Walt Disney World, then Universal Studios is another great option. Universal definitely has the bigger, scarier, and more thrilling rides that I’m sure teens and pre-teens will love.

You really can’t beat Orlando when it comes to holiday destinations for kids, as aside from the world-famous Disneyworld and Universal, Orlando also has SeaWorld Orlando, Discovery Cove, Legoland Florida, WonderWorks, Gatorland, Mini Golf Courses, Ripley’s Believe it or Not, The Florida Mall, and Air Boat Rides through the everglades. I told you it was the ultimate holiday destination.

Miami

Another of the warmest places in the USA in February is Miami which is known for its pristine beaches, and as in February, temperatures reach up to 24 degrees, there is nothing better to do than relax on the sand with your little ones.

Best Beaches In Miami

Of all the beaches in Miami, Crandon Park Beach, Bill Boggs Cape Florida State Park, North Shore Open Space Park are definitely favourited by families.

Crandon Park Beach is a popular beach on Key Biscayne, and with calm water, palm trees offering shade, and a playground close by, your kids won’t want to leave. Bill Boggs Cape Florida State Park is a beach that is great for swimming as there are very few waves, and North Shore Open Space Park has playgrounds, picnic areas, and barbecue spots.

Best Hotels In Miami and Miami Beach for all family budgets

After a long day at the beach, there is nothing better than heading back to the hotel, having a shower, and a little afternoon nap. Below are some of the best hotels in Miami for families:

Best Things To Do In Miami

You’ll most likely be spending a lot of your time exploring Miami’s beaches, but if you’re in need of other things to break up your days and entertain the kids, then Miami has the Miami Children Museum, the Bayside Marketplace, Jungle Island, Miami Zoo, and the Everglades which you can witness from an exciting airboat tour.

Warmest places in the USA in October: Nevada

The second of the warmest places in the USA in October is Nevada which is largely made up of desert, so it sees temperatures of up to 31 degrees, pretty warm, right?

Las Vegas may not initially seem like the place to visit with kids, but there is actually so many unique activities in the city that the entire family will love, as well as beautiful world-famous lakes, stunning national parks, and incredible national monuments just a car journey away.

Best Hotels In Las Vegas, Nevada

If I were heading to Nevada, I’d base my family in Las Vegas as the city is close to everything you’d want to see and do, as well as having all the amenities you could possibly need.

And don’t worry, all these properties have pools because, with that possible 31-degree weather, you’re going to want to take a dip!

Best Things To Do in Nevada and Vegas With Kids

While staying in Vegas with kids, check out the Neon Boneyard, which is a museum with dozens of neon signs from closed-down hotels and restaurants, the High Roller Observation Wheel to see the best views of the city, KISS by Monster Mini Golf, the Lion Habitat Ranch for up close sighting of lions, and the iconic Fountains of Bellagio for one of the world’s most entertaining water shows.

When you’ve had enough of the city, and you’re in need of an escape, head over to Red Rock Canyon National, Valley of Fire State Park, Fly Ranch Geyser, or the Great Basin National Park to see some epic scenery, sandstone peaks, and the South Snake mountains.

And I also wanted to give a special mention to Pyramid Lake, Lake Mead, and Lake Tahoe, where you can relax by the water’s edge, paddle a kayak or a paddle board, or set off on a walking trail, taking in the views all around you.

Warmest places in the USA in October: Puerto Rico With Kids

Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States, so I’m counting it on this list as in October, temperatures are an exceptional 30 degrees, making it ideal for an autumnal beach break.

Two of the best areas in Puerto Rico for families are Isla Verde and Culebra, which both have impeccable beaches with soft sand and calm turquoise water.

Best Beaches in Puerto Rico

Isla Verde has a few great beaches, with Isla Verde Beach, Alambique Beach, and Pine Grove Beach being the most mentionable and the most family-friendly. What’s so great about Isla Verde is the beaches are directly in front of resorts, restaurants, and amenities, meaning everything you need is all in one place.

In Culebra, Flamenco Beach, Zoni Beach, and Carlos Rosario Beach are the most visited by families thanks to their soft sand, tranquil water, and of course, the fact that they’re naturally beautiful and deserve to be on the front of a postcard.

Best Hotels In Puerto Rico

Once you’ve finished up on the beach, you’ll want to head back to a nice hotel to refresh and possibly take a nap. You’re on holiday, after all.

Here are some great options in both Isla Verde and Culebra:

Best Things To Do in Puerto Rico

You’ll likely be spending most of your time in Puerto Rico chilling on the beach or swimming in the pool, but there are a few extra activities you can do with little ones, like hiking through the El Yunque National Forest, taking surfing lessons on the beach, or flying kites at the Castillo San Felipe del Morro in Isla Verde.

Families in Culebra can head out on snorkelling tours, explore mangrove forests and search for wildlife, or take pictures with the beach tanks on Flamenco Beach.

Warmest places in the USA in October: South Carolina

South Carolina, on America’s eastern shore, is very well known for its subtropical beaches and its vast history regarding slavery and the civil war. In October, temperatures reach up to 26 degrees, which in my opinion, is the ideal temperature for taking little ones to the beach.

Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, and Charleston are some of the best areas in South Carolina for families because they’re right on the beach and give you a taste of true southern hospitality.

Best Beaches in South Carolina

South Carolina has so many great beaches that you could literally fill your entire holiday by visiting a different beach each day.

Kiawah Island, Hilton Head, Pawleys Island, and Huntington Beach State Park should be at the top of your list, as well as Folly Beach County Park, Isle of Palms, Myrtle Beach, and Coligny Beach Park. You really will be spoilt for choice.

Best Hotels In South Carolina

No matter where you stay in South Carolina, you’re bound to find a fantastic hotel with a pool. There is even a Disney Resort in Hilton Head, however, it may be under refurbishment at the time of your trip.

Best Things To Do in South Carolina With Kids

South Carolina has it all, from museums and zoos to aquariums and wildlife parks, so there is no doubt that your kids will be entertained for the entirety of your trip.

Let your little ones learn all about space in the Settlemyre Planetarium, expand their knowledge in the South Carolina State Museum, which has natural history exhibits, science and art exhibits, and see if they’re brave enough to get up close to alligators, frogs, snakes, and lizards at the Alligator Adventure Park.

In addition, the South Carolina Aquarium, the Greenville Zoo, the Pavilion Park, and the Family Kingdom Amusement Park are all other great family attractions that your little one will enjoy!

Warmest places in the USA in October: St. Thomas, U.S Virgin Islands

The final of the warmest places in the USA in October is technically an unincorporated organised territory, but like Puerto Rico, St. Thomas sees temperatures of over 30 degrees, so I just had to include it.

There are three main islands in the U.S Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John, however, for families, St. Thomas is arguably the best.

Best Beaches in St. Thomas

St. Thomas is a tropical island, so you bet there are a whole handful of appealing beaches that are just waiting to be explored. When holidaying in St. Thomas, you have to check out Magens Bay, Smith Bay Beach Park & Eco Reserve, Sapphire Beach, and Coki Point Beach

Remember to take your camera along with you, because the colour of the water is something you’ll want to look back on in years to come.

Best Hotels In St. Thomas

Here are some great hotel suggestions with a pool so that when you aren’t at the beach or exploring the quaint towns of St. Thomas, you can soak up the last of the sun and drain your kids of their excess energy.

Best Things To Do in St. Thomas

Surprisingly for a small island, there are so many great family activities that will suit kids of all ages. Firstly, you can see a huge range of ocean animals in the Coral World Ocean Park, learn and wonder in the Virgin Islands Children’s Museum, discover all about pirates in the Pirates Treasure Museum, and ride the Skyride To Paradise Point tramway, which takes you up 700 feet for a bird’s eye view of the Charlotte Amalie harbour.
