Destination Carvoeiro, Algarve Portugal

Carvoeiro is a little seaside town with a history of fishing. It has a beautiful golden sandy beach, and is nestled in-between some caramel honeyed cliffs. We visited in July and the square was bustling but not overcrowded in the balmy evenings.  Live performances on the centre stage serenade you as eat or enjoy watching the sunset, and bouncy castles and balloon makers entertain the children.

During the morning, little shops begin to open and one not to miss is the pottery shop, “A Draca Velba” Lots of brightly coloured locally made pottery for you take home and enjoy.

We found a delightful breakfast place on Rua das Flores, called Earth, which is open everyday except Tuesdays. Breakfast is available all day but the menu is vast for lunch too. Their fresh juices are beautifully presented in jam jars and the locally made preserves taste delicious on the freshly baked bread. You can also buy locally made soaps, pottery, and other bits and pieces.  They do provide high chairs but they have no baby changing facilities, but the bench in the loos does survice. A little gem of a place and a great view to boot.

Around Carvoeiro are some other beautiful beaches and great restaurants, none more than a fifteen minute drive away. Some absolute must tries are Rei das Plaias and Pescador.  High chairs are usually available but as the restaurants are fairly small, only one or two are available, but the views and food make it worthwhile!

carvoeiro, family friendly,There are plenty of mini markets available as well as some larger supermarkets in the area. You can pick up baby products as well as basic sundries and supplies if you are self catering. Full cream milk is with the green top and semi-skimmed with the blue.

We hired a car for our stay so we could easily visit the surrounding area. We used Hertz who fitted the car seats at the airport. They even have a dedicated car seat crew, so no fussing around in the heat with seats you are unfamiliar with! We did spend a lot of our time at our hotel the Monte Santo Resort, which was perfect for families and even has a baby concierge. Do read the post for much more detail and a room tour of all the many child friendly facilities. We had a wonderful family holiday here and as it’s only a short 2 hour flight from the UK, it’s very accessible and easy for families.
