Aircraft-Approved Car Seat Finder Tool
I hope this is useful – I am not a coder but have tried my best to put all the info out there for you. The tool should help you find a car seat which is valid to use on the airplane.
Airlines allow you to use one approved by FAA, or TÜV in the EU or equivalent in UK, Australia, Canada etc.
International airline associations safety rules do vary, so this effects the airlines rules on what car seats you can bring on-board your flight for your kids.
Just because your seat(s) may be FAA Approved Car Seats, does not mean all airlines will accept them. FAA rules govern US airlines only.
For example, a rear facing car seat approved in the USA may not be approved for use on a UK airline. Also many other non US airlines put an age limit on the use of car seats inflight. e.g Emirates will only allow car seats to be used for kids up to 36 months and Virgin Atlantic up to 2 years old.
There is a LOT more choice of airline approved car seats in the USA and Canada due to their airline association regulations. This post goes into more detail on that but you’ll find a good choice for forward and rear facing. For other markets, the choice is VERY limited once your baby is a certain weight, so don’t expect loads of choice if searching from the EU/UK for a 2+ year old.
Good to know: UK car seats are valid in the car for the EU and vice versa so can be sold to each location. So if you are having difficulty sourcing one to use, it can be worth trying both locations in the tool.
If I have missed one, particularly in the UK, EU market – please let me know. I’ve spent hours emailing car seat companies around the world to get this list but new ones do come on to the market.
Please note, I know there are a lot of USA & Canadian ones still left to include – there are loads compared to the rest of the world. I’ve included the most popular ones e.g lightest and slimmest in this tool but I’ll keep adding and revising. If you have one you highly recommend and have used personally on a flight, please do let me know in the comments below. I hope this resource helps a little!
